BATCH is a project based dance development and performance company concieved by Lee Smikle to further support the alumni from Shoreditch Youth Dance Company and other young graduate dance artist. Created to support dancers navigate the 'the void' of transitioning from student to professional life. Devised and led by dance artists and teachers with years of experience of working with the next generation of dancers, graduates and young dancers.
Designed to be artist and dancer focused, supporting the individual members work as a dancer, performer, teacher, curator, choreographer or producer. BATCH aims to keep providing a select number of talented young dance artists with the space, tools, networks and representation to develop and to take their next confident steps forward into the professional dance and creative sectors.
BATCH is a practical mentoring support agency that works around, and with it's ensemble members careers. Developing and suplimenting their existing skills and experience through workshops, exchanges & collaboration, performances and industry placements. Skill sharing and tutoring will also be given in administration, producing, curating and project management training.
The BATCH artists will work with innovative and inspirational teachers, producers and entrepreneurs and receive individual personal mentoring and career development throughout. Dancers will also have the pportunity to devise work with outstanding choreographers & artists, tour work nationally and internationally.
BATCH Ensemble's first performance project took place with choreographer Jamaal Burkmar, the winner of the third Matthew Bournes New Adventures Choreographer Award (NACA). BATCH performed a new work titled 'The Calm' which premiered during at the NACA Showcase, The Platform Theatre at Kings Cross, London in September 2016.
